Guests will generally want to have an automobile to access nearby destinations, although a few natural areas and restaurants can be reached by foot or bicycle.
By Automobile
From the North: Take HWY 101 South to San Luis Obispo. Take the Madonna Road exit and head south/west. After about 1 mile, turn right/west onto Los Osos Valley Road, toward Los Osos / Baywood Park. At Los Osos, continue on Los Osos Valley Road through 4 traffic lights. The Bird House is located on the right, about 200 yards before the 5th traffic light, which is at Doris Avenue.
From the South: Take HWY 101 North to San Luis Obispo. Take the Los Osos Valley Road exit and head west toward Los Osos / Baywood Park. At Los Osos, continue on Los Osos Valley Road through 4 traffic lights. The Bird House is located on the right, about 200 yards before the 5th traffic light, which is at Doris Avenue.
By Air
San Luis Obispo Airport is a 20-minute drive from The Bird House, and is serviced by United, Alaska, and American Airlines. Budget and Enterprise both offer rental cars at the airport.
By Train or Bus
Amtrack and Flixbus service downtown San Luis Obispo from both San Francisco and Los Angeles. You will need to catch a taxi, Uber, or local bus to a car rental facility elsewhere in SLO.
